Dr. Kiran C. Patel MD

Dr. Kiran Patel is the founder and a Managing Partner of the Sponsor. In 1987, Dr. Patel began his career as a board-certified cardiologist in private practice. After devoting over a decade to his practice, he turned his focus to the Medicare HMO industry. He founded and served as Chairman of the Board for Wellcare of Florida, which was transformed into the largest Medicaid health insurance company in Florida and fifth largest in the United States.

 

After successfully exiting Wellcare, Dr. Patel returned to Medicare HMOs as the Chairman of the Board of Freedom Health, Inc. and Optimum Healthcare, Inc. Within five years, Dr. Patel took these companies from $100 million to $1.4 billion in annual revenues, and in 2017, they were sold to publicly-traded Anthem, Inc.

Dr. Patel made his way into the hospitality and commercial real estate industry in the early 1990’s. His diversified portfolio of real estate holdings and developments include hotels, high- end residential condominiums, office and medical buildings, an ACLF, and a number of undeveloped properties.

 

Among the most significant of Dr. Patel’s real estate assets are his 700-room Wyndham Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, a 241-room Wyndham Westward Look in Tuscon, and the 448-room Grand Wyndham Resort Clearwater Beach which opened in early 2017.

 

Dr. Patel also developed several 20 to 25-unit high-end condominium projects along the gulf coast in Pinellas County, FL, including Alta Vita, Oceana, Bella Capri, and Da Vinci. Florida Trend Magazine named Dr. Patel “2018 Floridian of the Year” for his positive impact on the business community and his philanthropic work in the state of Florida. Dr. Patel currently devotes significant time and energy to global philanthropic efforts.
